On 1 July 2025, TUH, which includes Union Health, and Teachers Health have officially merged to form a stronger, national not-for-profit health fund.
As the weather warms up and we shake off the winter chill, spring brings a fresh opportunity to refocus on your health and wellbeing.
At Union Health, we know your health needs can change, so it makes sense that your health cover should evolve with you.
Whether you're starting a new fitness routine, planning for a growing family or simply reassessing your lifestyle, reviewing your cover ensures you're getting the right support, without paying for services you no longer use.
What to Look for
Your health cover should reflect your current needs. Here are a few reasons why a spring review is worth your time:
You’ve taken up a new sport or fitness activity and want more physio support.
Your child is ready for regular dental check-ups.
You’re paying for extras you haven’t used in months.
You’re planning for a new addition to the family or want access to new benefits.
By reviewing your policy, you can avoid being underinsured or overpaying for services that no longer fit your lifestyle.
Step 1: Log in to the Member Portal
Your spring clean starts here. The Union Health Member Portal is your secure, 24/7 hub for managing your health cover.
Once logged in, you can:
View your current hospital and extras cover
Check your claims history
Update your contact details
Complete your Health-e-Profile to unlock your Active Health Bonus
Step 2: Review Your Hospital Cover
Hospital cover protects you from the high costs of private hospital treatment. It’s important to make sure your policy includes the services you’re most likely to need.
Ask yourself:
Am I covered for pregnancy or birth-related services?
Do I need cover for joint replacements, heart procedures or inpatient care?
Do I have pre-existing conditions that require specific cover?
Am I planning elective surgery or in hospital specialist treatment?
If you’re unsure, the Member Portal provides a clear breakdown of your hospital cover.
Keep in mind: new services may have waiting periods, so plan ahead if you're considering changes.
Step 3: Review Your Extras Cover
Extras cover helps with everyday health services like dental, optical, physio and more. This is where many members find opportunities to tailor their policy and get better value.
Start by checking your usage:
Have you used your dental check-ups, physio sessions or optical benefits this year? Or are there extras you haven’t touched?
Match your extras to your lifestyle:
Active lifestyle? You might benefit from more physio, remedial massage or podiatry.
Family with kids? Dental, speech therapy and optical might be more important.
Focused on wellness? Consider psychology, dietetics or acupuncture.
If your current extras don’t match your needs, you can switch to a different package. Our team is here to help you compare options and make changes that suit your goals.
Note: Changing your extras may affect your eligibility for certain benefits, including the Active Health Bonus—so be sure to review the details before switching.
Step 4: Update Your Contact Details
It sounds simple, but keeping your contact details up to date (especially your email address) is essential. It ensures you receive important updates, benefit reminders and exclusive member offers.
Step 5: Unlock Your Active Health Bonus
The Active Health Bonus is one of the most valuable rewards available to Union Health members. It helps cover out-of-pocket costs for extras treatments, making it easier to stay on top of your health without worrying about the bill.
How it works:
Available to members on combined hospital and extras products (excluding Basic Extras).
Can be used to pay for out-of-pocket extras costs, up to the annual limit.
Must be claimed per policy, per calendar year.
To unlock your bonus, simply complete the Health-e-Profile—an online health assessment available in the Member Portal. It only takes a few minutes and must be completed every 12 months.
Eligibility
A six-month waiting period applies from your join date.
If you reduce or change your level of cover, your bonus may be reduced or removed.
The bonus is limited per policy, not per person.
Terms and conditions apply. For full details on eligibility and claiming the Active Health Bonus, click here.
