Agreement Update

Macquarie Health Corporation

Frequently asked questions

Updated 21 January 2026

Macquarie Health Corporation – which operates hospitals under Macquarie Hospital Services (MHS) and the Independent Private Hospitals of Australia (IPHoA) – has decided to end its agreement with us, effective 16 March 2026.

We’re sincerely sorry about any impact this potential change may have on you.

The agreement is the contract we have with the private hospital (or hospital group). If you're admitted to an ‘agreement hospital’ for a service you’re covered for, we’ll pay for the hospital costs – things like accommodation, operating theatres, meals and nursing (excluding any excess).

Before each hospital contract ends, we start negotiating a new one that provides value for our members. This includes resisting unfair increases in charges, which could impact your premiums.

In the past, we’ve successfully resolved most hospital contract issues before agreements have expired. Please know that negotiations are ongoing and we’re doing our best to reach new agreements with the MHS and IPHoA hospitals.

MHS and IPHoA operate 11 hospitals across NSW and Victoria:

  • Delmar Private Hospital
  • Eastern Suburbs Private Hospital
  • Essendon Private Clinic
  • Holroyd Private Hospital
  • Longueville Private Hospital
  • Malvern Private Hospital
  • Manly Waters Private Hospital
  • Minchinbury Community Private Hospital
  • President Private Hospital
  • The Melbourne Eastern Private Hospital
  • The Sydney Private Hospital

Please note, Macquarie Hospital Servies doesn’t include the Macquarie Hospital or Macquarie University Hospital in NSW.

There’ll be no change if your hospital admission is:

  • Before 16 March 2026
  • Pre-booked before 16 March 2026 for an admission before 16 September 2026
  • An emergency admission up to and including 15 June 2026

There’s no change for ongoing courses of treatment (that’s already started) up until and including 15 September 2026.

If your treatment is scheduled past 15 September 2026, please speak to your specialist about alternative hospitals.

You can still claim for admissions at MHS and IPHoA hospitals, but as with any non-agreement hospital treatment you may have significant out-of-pocket costs.

The hospital would need to explain these to you and get your informed financial consent (in writing) to those charges.

Alternatively, you may want to seek treatment at a hospital we do have an agreement with. This can help you access a high standard of care with minimal out-of-pocket costs.
