You extras cover lets you claim for Digital mental health support* programs from THIS WAY UP as part of your Psychology and hypnotherapy yearly limit.
Because looking after your mental health can be deeply personal, these programs are a convenient option if you’re time-poor or simply need support that fits you. Developed by psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, these programs are designed to help you manage challenges, from stress and insomnia to anxiety and depression.
What is THIS WAY UP?
THIS WAY UP offers trusted online cognitive behavioural therapy programs. These use evidence-based techniques for managing anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. While this is a joint venture between St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and the University of NSW, their programs are available for everyone online.
What programs are available?
There’s a range of programs to help with general wellbeing and stress management. There are also ones for more specific conditions including anxiety, depression, panic, chronic pain or OCD. Each offers practical skills and strategies – all covered by your extras.
They also offer programs for mindfulness, insomnia and stress management that are completely free.
What's right for me?
There are two ways to access these programs:

Can I claim?
You can if you've:
- Got Extras cover with us
- Served the two-month waiting period for Psychology and hypnotherapy
- Not used up your yearly limit for Psychology and hypnotherapy
- Signed up for a THIS WAY UP program.
How do I claim?
If you've signed up for a program that wasn't prescribed by your doctor, here's how to submit your claim:
- Take a photo of your receipt and submit it using the mobile app or member portal.
- Attach a copy of your receipt and send it to online.claims@tuh.com.au

It will depend on your level of extras cover:

Can I claim for other digital mental health support programs from other providers?
No. THIS WAY UP is the only provider approved by Union Health for the Digital Mental health support benefit.

^This could be a GP, psychologist or other health professional. They need to be registered with THIS WAY UP to prescribe a suitable program. You can request access to a program using THIS WAY UP's clinician letter when you consult with your doctor. They can then monitor your progress.
