What’s the Health Devices and Appliances benefit?
Our Health Devices and Appliances benefit can help with the cost of medically required devices that help to manage health conditions, injuries and support recovery after surgery. Here you’ll find information on, and a list of, items you can claim for, how much you could claim and what you need to make a claim.
Can I claim?
You can if you’ve got Family Extras, Comprehensive Extras, Ultimate Choice* or Easy Choice* and you’ve served any applicable waiting periods.
What items are included?
Devices such as:
- CPAP machines and accessories such as masks, tubing and filters (regular service not included)
- Blood pressure monitors
- Blood glucose monitors
- Nebulisers
Health Devices and Appliances also includes mechanical health appliances such as TENS machines.
Compression garments
These need to be medical grade, approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and prescribed for:
- Post-surgery use
- Chronic swelling (lymphoedema) and vascular conditions
- Burns recovery
- Swelling during pregnancy
Health aids
The benefit is payable on items that support rehabilitation after surgery or an injury or assist in managing a chronic health condition.
For example:
- Crutches
- Walkers
- Splints
- Moon boots
- Shower chairs

How much can I claim?
You can claim 85% of the cost of each device, up to your yearly limit.
See your product guide for limits and benefits specific to your cover. If you've go Ultimate Choice* or Easy Choice*, you can check your benefits in our app or member portal.
How do I claim?
You can submit your receipt through our app, online or by emailing online.claims@tuh.com.au (with your membership number int eh subject line).
For most Health Devices and Appliances claims, you'll need to include a letter from your doctor confirming the item you're claiming for is medically required. This is especially important if it's your first time claiming.
